DeGroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research (IIDR) Trainee Research Day. The event was held at CIBC Hall on Friday, October 10th and featured a keynote address by Professor Quim Madrenas of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at McGill University. In addition to the keynote speach, the talented trainees at IIDR presented their latest research findings and accomplishments during the day.<\/p>\n<p>A second-year Master\u2019s student\u00a0<strong>Avee Naidoo<\/strong>\u00a0was awarded with the\u00a0<strong>Michael Kamin Hart Memorial Scholarship<\/strong>\u00a0at a reception held at the University Club at the end of the day. The $1,800 scholarphip is named in honour of a gifted Master\u2019s student of IIDR who tragically passed away in 2011. Avee plans to use the scholarship to attend a Keystone meeting on inflammation and aging in Montreal next year. Another Master\u2019s student in the\u00a0<strong>Bowdish lab<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Netusha Thevaranjan<\/strong>, was awarded with the\u00a0<strong>IIDR Awards of Excellence<\/strong>\u00a0for her poster presentation. <strong>Kyle Novakowski<\/strong> was the runner up for the PhD poster award.<\/p>\n<p>Both\u00a0<strong>Avee<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Netusha<\/strong>\u00a0are currently working to elucidate the mechanisms underlying\u00a0age-associated deterioration of the innate immune response.<\/p>\n<p>Congratulations to both Avee and Netusha!<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_1534\" style=\"width: 594px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bowdish.ca\/lab\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/10\/2014-10-Avee-Netusha-at-the-IIDR-trainee-day.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1534\" class=\"size-large wp-image-1534\" alt=\"Netusha Thevarnjan wins best MSc poster presentation and Avee Naidoo wins the Michael Kamin Hart Memorial scholarship at the 2014 IIDR trainee day.
